The Seat Allocation Process is expected to commence soon following the declaration of All India Rank (AIR) by Central Board of secondary Education. Earlier, CBSE was to release the AIR on 25th June but due to some uncertainties looming over, the Rank Declaration was postponed. The JEE Main 2015 Result was declared by CBSE on 27th April 2015b and the anxiety amongst the students was getting higher every day since then. The fact that counseling at some private Engineering colleges had started earlier was adding to the anxiety of the students.
From this year onwards the Counseling process for seat allocation into IITs, NITs, IIITs and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) was entrusted upon Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) by merging the Joint Admission Board (JAB) and Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). Due to the delay in the declaration of the AIR, the JoSAA had to postpone the schedule of the counseling process and seat allocation.
Around 12 lakhs students had participated in the JEE Main 2015 Examination,the JEE Main Rank List according to their category and state was released by CBSE through which the counseling will be done.
Through this rank a candidate of the home state will get preference to the candidate of other state. Say, Jaish and Ravish belong to Haryana and Delhi respectively but in the state od Delhi, the rank of Ravish will be preferred much than Jaish. Similar is the case of students residing in the UTs, they will be allocated seats according to their merit in the neighboring state’s NIT and IIIT.
The JoSAA will continue its counselling session keeping in mind the following aspects:
The seat allocation will be centrally coordinated only on the basis of the candidates’ AIR and the course opted by the candidate during the Online Registration.

With the change in the allocation process, the JoSAA has also taken help of National Informatics Centre (NIC) in creating a software which will evaluate the seat availability data and the data of preference submitted by the candidates during the Online Registration and will allocate the seats accordingly to the candidates. After each round the available seats data will be uploaded on the Official website. Those candidates who have filled for both B.arch and B.tech course will have to opt for only one of them in the seat allocation round.

- Seat allocation for the preparatory courses at IITs and 4th round of seat allocation at NITs: 22nd July 2015
- Beginning of academic sessions at IITs: 22nd July 2015
- Acceptance of seats (4th round): 23rd July to 26th July 2015
- Physical reporting of candidates at admitting institutes (NITs); Schedule for IITs will be announced on the website: 23rd July to 26th July 2015
- Academic session starts for preparatory courses at IITs: July 27, 2015
- Academic sessions starts at NITs: July 28, 2015

- For B.Tech Course: The candidates should have secured a percentage of 45% in the qualifying examination.
- For B.Arch. course: candidates must have secxured at least 50% marks in mathematics in the board exam and must have secured more than 50% marks in aggregate.
