JEE Main 2016 Counselling is the process where JEE Main 2016 appeared candidates will be allotted seats on the basis of merit. It is a comprehensive process involving of multiple stages and rounds. The counselling body, JoSAA, will conduct the counselling in online mode over a period of approx 3 weeks starting from 1st week of July 2016. Stages of counselling are as follows:
There are several factors on which an allotment on the available seat is dependent, some of them are –merit list ranking, score obtained in JEE Main 2016, normalized score, choices filled, available seat matrix, and reservation norms. JEE Main 2016 Seat Allotment through counselling will be done for the following categories of participating engineering cum technological institutes:
JEE Main 2016 Counselling will also include a spot round in which candidates who remain unallotted from previous rounds can participate. It is important to note that if a candidate rejects any seat in the counselling cum allotment process, he will not be considered eligible for the next round of allotment.
- Registration for counselling – online registration by providing basic details
- Option filling, locking, and freezing – filling of colleges and streams in list in the decreasing order of preference
- Seat allotment (over multiple rounds) – allotment of seat according to merit
- Reporting to the allotted institute – reporting to the allotted institute after JEE Main 2016 Counselling
- Document verification – verification of qualification and other factors to eliminate impersonation or fraud
- Payment of admission fee – payment of semester admission fee in the allotted college
- Final enrollment for session 2016-2020 – enrollment in the college register for commencement of session

- Home State candidates for academic programs at NITs and BITM
- Other States candidates for academic programs at NITs and BITM
